The Spriet Centre is under Construction!
Fanshawe Pioneer Village was a busy place this summer and that was certainly the case on the construction site of the new Spriet Family Visitor Centre. Structural steel was erected in July giving us the first glimpse of the shape of this new building. By the second week of September, 10,000 blocks will be set in the structural masonry walls, just in time to install the concrete floor on the second floor. Roof cladding will follow shortly after.
Around the site you may notice two huge water tanks. They will be installed in the ground beside the maze and opposite the Spriet Centre. These tanks will supply water for the Fire Department in the event of a fire at Fanshawe Pioneer Village.
Contracts have now been confirmed for furniture and computer systems. A fiber internet connection will be installed by Execulink Telecom and this company will also provide the hosted telephone system. LCS Workplace Furnishings has been awarded the contract for the office systems in the Spriet Centre and Superior On-Site Solutions will supply, set-up and install all new computer systems for the building. Staff are extremely excited about the fiber internet connection which will be extended to both the Denfield General Store and the Pioneer Village Café. This connection will provide 100 GB per month which will support a WIFI service both in the Spriet Centre and the Historic Village.
While construction is underway, generous gifts to the BIG on HISTORY! Capital Campaign continue to come in. The most significant was a gift of a1978 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith II from Jim Gibson and his family. This beautiful car will be auctioned in March 2013 with all proceeds going towards the Spriet Centre. So…on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 someone will drive off with a luxury Rolls Royce at the Gala Opening of the Spriet Centre!
