Community Programs

Early Settler Life

Village staff will deliver a 60 minute, hands- on educational program to introduce participants to life of the early settlers.  Participants will explore a variety of artifacts from our hands-on collection, learn to card and spin wool, churn butter and make an early 19th century craft.
Cost:  $190.00 per session

Heritage Craft

The heritage craft program is a 40 minute program designed for children age 5 – 12 years of age.  Village staff will demonstrate and teach participants a 19th century heritage craft.  The program can accommodate up to 25 participants per session.
Cost:  $120.00 per session

Historic Unmentionables: The Evolution of the Woman’s Undergarments during the Victoria Era

Sheila Johnson, Executive Director of Fanshawe Pioneer Village will present how undergarments changed the woman’s shape throughout the Victorian age to achieve the strict dictates of the latest fashion.

The History of Shoes

For most of human history, footwear has been both a necessity and a luxury worn by all classes within society.  Fanshawe Pioneer Village offers participants the opportunity to learn the fascinating history of the shoe and view the shoes we currently have in our collection.

The History of Printing

Fanshawe Pioneer Village offers a fascinating presentation on the history of printing.  The History of Printing lectures include a variety of photographs and artifacts.  The lecture can be one of, or a combination of three topics:
1.     The History of Printing:  Learn about the history of printing up to the 19th century including the development of presses, type, inks and paper.  The advancement of the process from its beginnings in the Middle East to the European continent and finally to the Americas.
2.    The History of the Free Press:  Learn the history of the Canadian Free Press of William Sutherland to the London Free, the Blackburn Family and Sun Media
3.    The Development of News Paper Printing in Canada:  From the 16th century to the 20th century and its effect on the development of our community and our country.
